Puppy Vaccine Schedule
Vaccine schedule we follow at PHCC:
There are a number of different opinions on vaccine schedules and what vaccines you should get for your new puppy/dog. Here at PHCC we adhere to the following vaccine schedule based on our research and veterinary requirements for ear cropping. We recommend you do your own research and speak with your veterinarian to establish what is a good schedule for your dog. Visit the AAHA Vaccine Recommendations for the full list of current recommendations.
Core vaccines:
Rabies - 16 weeks, 1 year, then booster every 1-3 years thereafter (or titer testing if allowed by law)
Distemper/Parvo (DA2PPV) - 6 weeks, 8 weeks, 12 weeks, 16 weeks, 1 year, then booster every 1-3 years thereafter
Non-core vaccines:
Bordetella (Kennel Cough) - 6 weeks (intranasal), then yearly (intranasal) booster thereafter
Recommend if your dog is exposed to a high number of other dogs
Ex. boarding, doggy-daycare, dog park, training classes, dog shows, dog competitions, etc
We prefer intranasal vaccine as it can be given prior to 6 weeks, is a single initial dose, lasts 12-14 months
Maternal antibodies do not interfere with effectiveness when given intranasal
Canine Influenza - Initial 2 dose series, given 2-4 weeks apart, then yearly booster thereafter
Recommend if your dog is exposed to a high number of other dogs
Ex: boarding, doggy-daycare, dog park, training classes, dog shows, dog competitions, etc
Leptospirosis - Inital 2 dose series, given 2-4 weeks apart, then yearly booster thereafter
Recommend speaking with your veterinarian about risk vs benefit in your geographical location
There are documented adverse reactions to older leptospirosis vaccines
Recommend the 4-serovar variety as it will cover more strains of leptospirosis
We prefer to give it apart from other vaccines, so we administer after 16 weeks of age
