Summer 2024 - Oklahoma City & Topeka

Training up new pups takes a lot of time so we have only attended a few select shows this summer - primarily the big shows in Oklahoma City and Topeka. At the OKC show at the end of June, we participated in Conformation, Obedience, Scent Work, and Barn Hunt. In Topeka at the end of Aug, we participated in Conformation, Scent Work, and Barn Hunt!

OKC:
Thundyr earned points, majors, and champion defeats towards her Grand Championship. She earned her Beginner Novice Obedience title (BN), Open Barn Hunt title (RATO), and Scent Work Containers Advanced title (SCA).
Grizz earned his Scent Work Interior Excellent Elite title (SIEE), Scent Work Container Excellent (SCE), and overall Scent Work Excellent title (SWE). He also earned multiple legs towards his Master Barn Hunt title.
Myst earned her Scent Work Exterior Excellent title and many other legs in a variety of SW elements.

Topeka:
Thundyr finished her Grand Championship (GCH) with multiple BOB/BOS placements making her our second Grand Champion here at PHCC.
Warlock earned his first AKC points going Winner’s Dog one day and reserve other days.
Grizz earned his Master Barn Hunt tile (RATM) making him only the fourth Corso to achieve that title.
Myst earned her Scent Work Interior Advanced Elite title (SIAE) and many other legs towards other SW elements.
Wynd came out and tried her hand at Barn Hunt and while she wasn’t successful at finding rats, she did pass her cardiac echo for the first part of her health testing.

Spring 2024

Early this Spring, we were able to celebrate the addition of some new meaningful titles to our program… chiefly we finished our very first AKC Grand Champion (Sunny) and our dear partner Maria was able to finish Jazzy’s AKC Championship on the same day! We have taken a bit of a break from sports while we are in the process of raising our first large litter in a few years and so these two accomplishments were well deserved amidst the fray of puppies!

Congratulations and Thank You to Maria for all the work you have put in to showcase our girl Jazzy, both in the conformation and performance rings. She’s creating quite a legacy at Overwatch Kennels.

Spring 2023 - Part 2

In April this year, Thundyr finished her AKC Championship title becoming our second entirely bred-by and breeder-owner-handled Champion dog. This is something that we feel strongly about and enjoy being on the end of her lead to accomplish. The same day she finished her championship she also took an Owner-Handled Group 2 placement in the Working Group Ring at the Garden City cluster! This is our first group placement!

In early May, we took Myst, Grizz, and Thundyr up to Iowa for some Barn Hunt and FastCAT.. Thundyr earned some runs towards her BCAT and took a High-In-Class placement in Barn Hunt Open class for her first leg of her Open title. Myst had 4 very successful Crazy8 runs earning 210 more points towards her Crazy 8 Gold title. Lastly, Grizz earned his FCAT title in FastCAT and earning 2 very nice legs towards his Barn Hunt Senior title! It was a really nice weekend with great friends and two great clubs.

Spring 2023

After an intense end to 2022, PHCC was a bit calmer for first quarter of 2023, but still with two very important accolades to ring in this year. At the 5 day Heart of America Cluster in Kansas City in early March Thundyr earned both of her majors and most of her points to come close to finishing her championship. Sunny also earned 2 majors and 1 champion defeat to close in the last few points of her Grand Championship, both breeder-owner handled!

At the end of the month, Grizz went out and was able to earn a new title - Tracking Dog (TD) which is a really, really BIG DEAL to us! This is the very FIRST tracking title earned by a Cane Corso in AKC history! In addition to that, by earning the last of a 3 part series (Novice Agility Titles, Novice Obedience Title, and Tracking Dog Title) he also became the very first Cane Corso to earn the AKC Versatility Dog title of Versatility Companion Dog Level 1 (VCD1)!!!! We are incredibly proud of this boy and all he is willing and able to do! He loves working and he loves learning new sports! It is a blessing to have such a well rounded and amazing temperamented dog!

ALL the sports - Fall 2022

Once again time has slipped away as we have been knee deep in dog sports as we close out the year. In October, Grizz finished off his RAE title, and began his official agility journey. In addition to this, most of the dogs (and our friends) headed out to test for the ATTS test (the first we have ever seen offered within a reasonable driving distance!). Thundyr earned her first leg of RE and her first conformation points.

November and December have been all Grizz as he continued his SW and Agility journeys. Grizz earned his first SW titles (all novice levels) and his novice agility titles in both standard and jumpers. He is currently working on advanced level scent work titles and has taken some time off to become a better agility dog (really for me to become a better agility handler) before tackling open level in agility! We have found some real passions that he enjoys competing in and I hope will bring us happiness and enjoyment for many years to come!

Last but not least… In early Nov we imported a handsome new pup from Italy to help bring some diversity to our program and offer some exciting opportunities for years to come! His name is Warlock and you can see all about him on his page under the “males” tab!

Until next year, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to you from us at PhogHaven Cane Corso!

ALL the sports - Summer 2022

We took a couple months off from dog sports to work on our house. The last four weeks we picked up again and have run a number of different sports since then. At the end of August was the large Topeka Cluster where we participated in Obedience, Rally, Barn Hunt, and Conformation. Sunny walked away with a major and CH defeat, Thundyr earned two Rally titles (RI & RA) and a Barn Hunt title (RATN), Grizz earned an Obedience title (CD) and took high in trial (HIT) in preferred obedience, and Myst earned another leg in the Barn Hunt Master class.

Two weeks ago Kenai, Sunny, and Thundyr took a short trip to Iowa to earn their FDC titles (Farm Dog Tests) while Grizz stayed in Kansas and entered his first Scent Work competition. Grizz walked way with legs in all 4 novice elements (containers, interior, exterior, and buried) and new titles in Interiors & Exteriors! He also earned a HIT in the novice division!

Last week, it was announced that Myst earned the Cane Corso Association of America (CCAA) Performance Corso of the Year for 2021. This is a very big accomplishment and we are very proud of her! Additionally, Grizz and Myst earned their CCAA Working Dog Advanced Titles as well!

Finally, this past weekend Eli completed his last legs of FastCAT to earn his BCAT down in Wichita at their first ever FastCAT event and his brother Grizz earned a few more legs towards his RAE title in Kansas City. Stay tuned over the last few months while we continue to compete in various venues across the midwest to finish out a great 2022 year!

Conformation - Topeka, KS

This past weekend Overwatch Kennels took PhogHaven’s Jasmine (Jazzy) back out into the conformation ring! After some time off with a litter of pups and working on some performance titles with her, they let her mature and then pulled her back out for a local weekend of fun! Jazzy did really well bringing home 1 best of breed placement, 2 major wins and 3 winner’s bitch placements! Additionally, Vae Victis Narco (PHCC Eli son) had his conformation debut and looked great doing so!

Special CONGRATULATIONS to Maria & Jazzy!

CCAA Nationals - Columbus, OH

April 22-23, 2022

Cane Corso Association of America (CCAA) is the parent breed club for the Corso within AKC. We are members of the CCAA and attended our first ever Regional and National Event this year in Columbus, OH. Grizz and I competed in Rally Excellent, Rally Advanced, Beginner Novice Obedience, and Novice Obedience earning legs in all sports and earning our Beginner Novice title with a High-in-Class placement. Saturday evening we attended the annual awards banquet where we accepted the “Members Choice” award on Myst’s behalf for 2021 and spent the evening with some really great friends! Thundyr tagged along for some ringside and travel experience but did not participate in any competitions.

Rally & Obedience Trials - Springfield, MO

To start off the new year of sports, Grizz and I decided to step into the Obedience ring on a bit of a whim. We were able to learn a lot, received some great feedback from all 3 judges and completed a few legs of Beginner Novice obedience and Rally Excellent. We look forward to taking that knowledge and continuing to grow together as a team going forward! He walked away with a couple of first placements in both events :)

End of Year 2021

Over the last few months of 2021, we finished off a few last minute titles. Mid-October Myst earned her last leg of Rally Intermediate (RI) and Thundyr earned her first legs of Rally Novice (RN). In early November, Grizz ran a few legs of Barn Hunt Senior but the real star was his Momma! Myst became the very first Cane Corso to earn the Crazy 8 Silver (CZ8S) title in Barn Hunt. Then to round out the year Thundyr earned her final leg for her Rally Novice (RN) title in December and Kenai earned his Canine Good Citizen Advanced (CGCA) and Urban (CGCU) titles.

During the Topeka Cluster at the end of August, we took a number of dogs out to run some Barn Hunt locally. Grizz earned his RATO title, Jasmine earned her RATI & RATN titles, Ember earned a leg towards RATN, and Rayne earned her RATI title and a leg towards her RATN. During the same weekend, Grizz also earned two legs towards his Rally Advanced (RA) title. This past weekend, Grizz earned his last leg to earn his RA title while Myst earned her first leg of her Rally Intermediate (RI) title. Lastly, Thundyr earned her first leg of Rally Novice virtually this past week as well!

Coursing Ability Tests - Iowa

At the beginning of end of July/beginning of August, Grizz spent back to back weekends up in Des Moines, IA and Amana, IA earning the last 9 legs of his Coursing Ability Excellent (CAX) title. It was a very hot and humid 10 days but he pulled it off and there were some nice photographs taken the final weekend. We were able to help run the event and watch numerous competitors see success! This was Grizz’s 16th title and one he really loves working for!

Barn Hunt & FastCATs - Grinnell, IA

This weekend we took Myst and Grizz out to Grinnell, IA to run some of their favorite sports! And what an amazing and whirlwind weekend it was!!!! They came out of the gates fast with Grizz earned his DCAT title and Myst earning her Barn Hunt Senior (RATS) title both on Friday afternoon. On Sunday, Grizz ran his third fastest time to date at 24.70 mph and Myst added a Crazy8 Bronze (CZ8B) title to her collection as well. Myst is now only the 5th Corso to ever earn a RATS title and the 2nd Corso to ever earn a CZ8B title!!! She just loves this game so much! ❤️

AKC Temperament Tests - Columbia, MO

Last weekend we took our foundation dogs, Kenai & Myst, out for a short drive to Columbia, MO to try out the AKC Temperament Tests. Not only did both dogs do phenomenal, but they also just plain had a great time! Kenai doesn’t do much traveling with us as he gets carsick easily, but he did fabulous and really enjoyed the opportunity to meet some new people and participate in some new activities.

Farm Dog Certifications - Purina Farms, Missouri

This weekend we took a day trip to Purina Farms just outside St Louis, MO. During the Miniature American Shepherd Club of the USA’s National Specialty Show they held herding trials and afterwards they held Farm Dog Certifications. Similar to CGC’s, they are designed to assess a dog’s ability to tolerate regular farm chores and situations around a farm atmosphere. We were tested on sheep as our livestock and they could show interest but not be overly interested. Additionally, they had to remain calm, responsive, and under control the entire time. Both Myst and Grizz were entered and they both passed with flying colors. As usual, Grizz soaked up lots of attention and love while Myst maintained her usual distance and utilized her RBF to keep people at bay ;)

Confo, FastCaTs, & Barn Hunt - Seward, NE (May 2021)

Teams Overwatch and PhogHaven stormed Seward, Nebraska for a fun filled weekend of Barn Hunt, FastCATs, and Conformation. Sunday was both Mother’s Day and Myst’s 6th Birthday! Grizz had a good weekend coming home with ~150 points towards his DCAT and some very speedy runs. Myst had a number of successful runs between both Senior class and Crazy 8’s class. And on the last day, Thundyr earned her very first title - Rat Instinct (RATI)!

Ember had a very nice weekend, picking up another 4 pt major win taking Best of Opposite Sex (BOS) during the conformation trial. Thundyr did very well for only being her second show and having very little practice in the ring. Jasmine also tried her nose at the Rat Instinct title and while being very close success in the ring was not to be had that day. She has a very good nose on her and is very much like her mother, Myst. With a little more practice I suspect she will also find good success in Barn Hunt!

Confo & FastCaTs - Mason City, IA (April 2021)

To round off April, Team Overwatch and Team PhogHaven headed north to support one of our favorite coursing clubs and enter our first show of the year. With COVID shutting so much down, the dogs haven’t been in the show circuit for many months. None the less, Team Overwatch came out of the gates strong with Ember taking BOS and WB this weekend earning two major wins!

Potentially even more exciting was introducing Ember and Jazzy to FastCATs where they both competed successfully earning their first points towards their BCAT titles! Additionally, Grizz ran his new fastest time at 24.97 mph! We are super excited to see them enjoying a new sport and look forward to how they all do in upcoming trials!

AKC Temperament Tests - Spring, TX (April 2021)

A couple of our co-own girls were representing the breed fabulously while on an excursion to the TX coast. At the end of 2020, both girls earned their CGCs, CGCAs, and CGCUs. This month, they added some new titles to their names when they each passed the ATT test twice! Congratulations to Maria (Overwatch Kennels) and her hard work with Jasmine (Kenai x Myst) and Ember (Junior x Lizzie) as well as a couple of her GSDs.

Coursing Ability Advanced - McKinney, TX (Apr 2021)

Heading into 2020 we had high hopes of completing some advanced coursing titles for Grizz and Myst, however, COVID put a quick damper on that as most all coursing trials (both CATs and FastCATs) were cancelled throughout the year. We were able to attend one FastCAT trial in October where Grizz earned his BCAT title but that was all. With vaccinations available now, more trials are being held once again. In March, Grizz attended his first combo CAT & FastCAT trial in Oklahoma and came out of the gate strong, never missing a beat! It has been just over 1.5 years since we have been able to run at a CAT trail but he did not disappoint. This month we traveled to McKinney, TX and successfully competed in our second CAT trial where Grizz was able to earn himself his Coursing Ability Advanced (CAA) title! Stay tuned in the coming months as we hit the field hard this year to accomplish those goals we set in 2020!
